Easy Way To Add Friends

Here is an incredibly easy way to increase your mafia size and is not by any means an exploit.

In some of the "add me" threads on the Mafia Wars fan page, sometimes people will post e-mail lists of people who are looking for more Mafia Wars members. With this list:

1. Click on the "Invite Friends" sub-tab under the "Friends" tab at the bar found at the top of Facebook.

2. On the "Invite Friends" page, simply copy and paste e-mails off of the e-mail list into the first box and type "mafia wars" into the second box. As mentioned below, I would only recommend pasting about 40 e-mail addresses a day (will result in about 20 friend invites).

3. Since these e-mail addresses already exist in the system, Facebook will automatically send them a friend request for you (you can easily send 20+ friend requests with the click of a button this way).

4. Someone posted a list of a few hundred people in this add-me thread, but there are tons of other e-mail lists floating around out there in various Facebook groups.

It is as simple as that. Set your Facebook status and that is all there is to it. I would not recommend adding more than 20-30 people a day with this method - any more than that and you could be flagged for spamming.

Hitlisting Yourself - Mafia Wars Strategy

Here is a pretty simple way to get extra experience points on your Mafia Wars character.

1. Make a new account.

2. Level it up a few times to level 10 and put all your points into stamina. Once you are level 10 or 11 you will be allowed to attack random people.

3. Find out the link to your first account's mafia wars profile page. To find it, have a friend (or a second account) log into their "My Mafia" page, right click on your name on their mafia list and click "open in new window." That link location is the location to your account. Bookmark this link.

4. Now, on your second account, open up the bookmarked link and attack your own account over and over again. You will lose every fight, but as a result, your first account will get experience points for winning the fight on defense.

If you are a high level character with a full mafia and good stats, you can use this strategy to list your first account on the hitlist over and over again. If you can win the majority of the fights, you will get a lot of experience points from doing this!

Alternatively, if you have 2 accounts, make one account only have 1 mafia member - that member being your other account. When first account finds items from doing jobs, your other account will get a few exp for "finding" the item. I find that the "Collect Protection Money" job in the Associate tier to have a really high drop rate. Do this job a few hundred times and your main account will get a few hundred extra experience points as well!

Halloween Event - Mafia Wars Strategy

Looks like Halloween came early this year. Tonight, the limited time only job "Rob a Candy Truck" was added to the game.

The job pays out 2 xp for every 1 energy it costs, and the cost of the job appears to vary based on your level. The reward for completing the job is a Treat Bag (weapon, 15 attack 18 defense) and 25% job mastery.

You can only do the job once per day, so you will presumably have to do it four times over the Halloween weekend to get the mastery reward (probably a pretty good LEL Halloween item). On the second day I robbed the truck, I got another treat bag.

Also, available via the free gifts function (enter Mafia Wars via bookmark for a good chance to go to this screen), you can send and receive treat bags in addition to two more items:

Ghost Thug (armor, 10 attack, 20 defense):

Mystery Van (vehicle, 15 attack, 15 defense):

Best Equipment List - Mafia Wars Strategy

Note, to qualify for the list, it must be an item that drops from jobs (job mastery items (like the cazador assault rifle, godfather points items and limited edition items like the Red Coat will be excluded from the list).

Best Offensive Weapons:

Ubijca Assault Rifle: 43 attack, 18 defense - from the "Help "Plan" The Next Attack" job (Vory Only) in Episode 5 in Moscow.

Best Defensive Weapon:

Zmeya Carbon Blade: 28 attack, 44 defense. Drops from the "Hit a Vory Nightclub" job (Mafiya Only) in Episode 6 in Moscow.

Best Offensive Armor:

Shturmovik: 45 attack, 28 defense. Drops from the "Rob a Troop Convoy" job (Vory only) in Episode 4 in Moscow.

Best Defensive Armor:

Executive Overcoat: 22 attack, 45 defense. Drops from the "Acquire Classified Files On Crime Syndicates" job (both sides) in Episode 6 in Moscow.

Best Offensive Vehicle:

Zoloto Sports Car: 43 attack, 22 defense. Drops from the "Ship Black-Market Caviar To London" job (both sides) in Episode 6 in Moscow.

Best Defensive Vehicle:

Konstantin Cargo Carrier: 18 Attack 44 Defense - from the Vory only job in Episode 6 (need name/picture).

Conclusion

Currently, all the best items in the game now come from Moscow. However, not all upgrades are the same. TNT/Canonazos have 1 less attack than the Ubijca Assault Rifle, and the Armored State Car only has 2 less defense than the Konstantin Cargo Carrier. The executive overcoat, zoloto sports car, shturmovik, and zmeya carbon blade however are all very nice upgrades. As a result, you would do well to focus on collecting the latter four items first and replacing your TNT last.

Best Use For Energy Packs - Mafia Wars Strategy

Don't use energy packs simply to level up. Using them for the sake of leveling is a waste since you are already able to level up off of a single energy bar. Additionally, if you are following this guide, do not use energy packs before level 100. Using them before level 100 is a waste, since it only takes an hour or 2 to hit level 100 following this strategy guide. To make full use of an energy pack, you need a lot of energy to make it worthwhile. If you aren't following this guide step by step and are just looking to be a better player, you can still use this same strategy to your advantage.

Collecting Cameras

The best use for an energy pack is to stock up on Untraceable Cell Phones, Concealable Cameras, and Computer Set-ups. You need around 400 cell phones, probably around 500 or 600 concealable cameras, and 250 computer set-ups to master all the jobs. Computer Set-Ups are also used to obtain the highest defense armor (Falsified Documents), so you can never get enough of those either. The problem is, the "Rob an Electronics Store" job is one of the least efficient jobs in the game, making it very hard to collect these consumable items. However, with an energy pack, you will easily be able to level up off of doing an inefficient job like "Rob an Electronics Store". Therefore, your energy pack should be used to collect these consumable items. Just use all of your energy on robbing an electronics store, then use the energy pack, then do the same job until you level up.

Demote your Mastermind

When using an energy pack to collect items, the goal is now not leveling up, but collecting as many items as possible with your energy pack. For this reason, it is important here to come into a fresh level without any extra experience points. Additionally, you should demote your top mafia mastermind so that you can do the job more times. If this is confusing you, think of it this way. Let's say you are level 100, and you have 750 energy, and you need 1250 experience points to level up. With an energy pack, you'll have 750 energy + 937 energy for the pack to use for that level.. energy is not a concern when you have an energy pack. Let's say that the electronics store job gives 27 exp. You will be able to do the job 47 times before you level up. However, if you demote your mastermind, the job will only offer 25 exp. You'll now be able to do the job 50 times before you level up. That is 3 extra items that you will be able to collect from demoting your mastermind. It may seem insignificant, but it will definitely add up, especially at high levels! Don't forget to promote your mastermind when your energy pack is used up!

Step by Step process:

1. Keep your energy pack until you level up.
2. Get to a fresh level.
3. Demote your Mastermind.
4. Use all of your energy on robbing the electronics store (enforcer tier).
5. Use your energy pack when you are out of energy.
6. Rob the electronics store until you almost level up.
7. Re-promote your Mastermind.
8. You should do your most expensive job right before you level up so you can get a head start on the next level.
9. Continue leveling!

Free Godfather Points Link - Mafia Wars Strategy

If you've been playing Mafia Wars for any bit of time, undoubtedly you've seen the "5 free godfather points" link. If you haven't seen it before, here it is:

http://apps.facebook.com/inthemafia/index.php?xw_controller=index&xw_action=newbreward

Many of you will get 5 free godfather points for clicking that link. Additionally, many of you will not get anything. The link is a one-time deal. How does this work? Well, if you've seen the links in the many groups on facebook and clicked it there, obviously, it will not work. However, some of you have never seen the link before and still won't get any points; here's why:

After 12 or so hours after you install the Mafia Wars app, you will get a notification that says, "Thanks for playing Mafia Wars" with the same link as above. This is a "newbie reward" for all new players - hence the "newbreward" part of the link. If you click the notification, you are given 5 points on the spot. However, most people seem to miss this notification. If you happened to go on vacation or did not log into facebook for a few days, odds are you missed the link. Since the offer is always open but only valid for one click, some people get 5 reward points while others don't. Players who get points only do so because they missed the notification in the first place.

It's a one time deal, so if you click the link and get nothing, you've already gotten the points, so you aren't missing out on anything. People who benefit from the link simply missed it the first time around!

Job Mastery Items - Mafia Wars Strategy

After mastering all the jobs in a specific tier 3 times, you will master the tier, get a title and a reward item. Here are these reward items:

Master Street Thug - Pistol Bayonet: +4% damage done in fights

This is an easy one to get, and definitely worth it! Dealing more damage in fights is a great bonus.

Master Associate - Bugatti: -7% damage taken in fights

Also an easy one to get, and definitely worth it. Will win more fights with this item.

Master Soldier - Golden Skull: 30 second reduction on health regen timer

Pretty worthless. You have to master soldier to become a master in the next tier though.

Master Enforcer - Money Plate: 5% discount on property purchases

Not bad. Every little bit helps if you are on the quest for the "Nest Egg" achievement.

Master Hitman - Chainsaw Bayonet: 30 second reduction on stamina regen timer

Also pretty good. This item lets you attack other players more often.

Master Capo - State Senator: 5% discount on property repairs

Not all that great. If you are spending a lot of money on repairs, see the "How Not to Get Robbed" post.

Master Consigliere - Helicopter - 30 second reduction on energy regen timer

Lets you regen energy more often. Not bad I'd say!

Master Underboss - Private Island - +5% more experience points from jobs

This is the best reward item in my opinion. It makes leveling up a lot easier!

Master Boss - Golden Throne - 2x the energy regenerated per regen period

This is final reward item. I think it is bugged. Right now, you can only get 1 energy regenerated per regen period, so with this item you get 2 energy. However, at higher levels, if you watch your energy regen, it goes up by 2 (without the golden throne) but when you refresh the page, it goes back down to only 1. I think if the creators update the game at some point, this item might get better, and provide more than 2 energy per regen period.

Lotto Collection - Mafia Wars Strategy

The Lotto collection gives "+10% to job loot drops" as its reward. I would assume this is an additive bonus rather than multiplicative.

In other words, if an item had a 30% drop rate, it now has a 40% drop rate. This might sound great at first, but the odds of winning a piece are very slim, let alone collecting the whole set. You would have to trade for the set & contend with scammers. The problem pieces for the set go for anywhere from 50 to 100+ TNT/guerrilla squads/other high-end items.

So good luck collecting a set! Unless they make it more accessible, it just does not seem to be worth it to me.

Introduction - Mafia Wars Strategy

There's something exciting and romantic about the lifestyle of
major organized crime, as manifested by the success of mob
movies such as The Godfather. The enticement of easy money,
lots of power, and living on the edge of the law has spawned
many successful video games.
I'm not sure any of them rival the power of Mafia Wars by
Zynga in recent times. The explosion of social networking
websites, specifically Myspace and Facebook has made it
possible for many software companies to make a fortune by
creating free, addictive games that people share with one
another on these sites.
If you aren't already playing Mafia Wars then you are missing
out on a free way to have a lot of fun and make a lot of friends.
It doesn't cost a dime to play and once you're involved in the
game you'll enjoy it so much you won't ever want to stop.
I personally prefer playing Mafia Wars on Facebook.

Growing Your Mafia - Mafia Wars Strategy

Initially, this seems like the hardest part unless you're really
experienced with these kinds of games or 'applications' on
social networking sites. To go out and recruit people into your
mafia quickly and successfully, follow the steps here and your
mafia will be huge in no time.
Method #1) Invite all your existing network friends to play. This
is easy because the application has a built-in feature to do this,
however, it's limited because the application needs to cooperate
with the social network website and not spam.
To overcome the limitations imposed by the built-in feature of
the application, you need to get your recruiting link and go out
and invite your friends individually. This will actually bring
MORE of your friends into your mafia than by using the
automated features.
Take a minute and craft your personalized invitation message
for your friends. Tell them that even if they don't want to play,
you benefit by them simply accepting the invitation. You want
your mafia to be huge in numbers so even the people who
never use applications but accept to be in your mafia will speed
the game along for you. Some of the least expected friends can
turn into your strongest mafia bosses so invite everybody.
Send your personalized invitation via the private message
feature. Don't try to send to everybody too fast because you
don't want Myspace or Facebook to kick in its anti-spam
defenses. Send a message every few minutes until you've
invited your best friends. Try to pick the most active members
first as they'll be most likely to accept and play the game with
you.
Method #2) Use forums to recruit super players
In Mafia Wars, you need at least six players in your mafia who
are totally addicted to the game and will reach the higher
levels. These are the players you want to put into your 'top
mafia' by promoting them to be your wheelman, your
safecracker, etc. When you promote players who are further
along in the game, you get bigger rewards in jobs and fights.
To find these people, go to the "Apps" directory on Facebook.
http://www.facebook.com/apps/
In the Search Applications box, enter 'Mafia Wars'. The first and
best one is #1 by Zynga, the one we're talking about in this
report. Go ahead and click it. It will take you to the application's
home page. What's interesting is that there is a discussion
board on this page. It's where you'll see people asking and
answering questions about the game. It's a good place to hang
out if you have doubts, but the best part is that this is where
players post to recruit members into their mafia.
What you do is add all of these people who are posting for
more mafia members to your own mafia. You add them as a
friend and I recommend you include a personal message at
the time of adding saying something like "for mafia wars" or
just paste your recruiting link in there so they know you're not
a stalker and want to play the game with them. There's no
limit to how much you can do this, and it's the fastest way to
build a supercharged mafia.
It's important to recruit early in the game because the best way
to get cash flow going (in order to get stronger weapons and
vehicles) is to buy "Mafia Mike's" property. It's cheap and
offers awesome cash flow. You need it in order to get those Tommy Guns
necessary for completing jobs and defending yourself. Recruit
like crazy and your mafia will be gigantic. The limit at the time
of this writing is 500, but you can get there quickly by using this
forum recruiting tactic ALONE!!!
Do both adding people from the forum and post your own little
ad for recruiting. You can also post in the 'Review' section but
tell people to add you as a friend to invite to the game since the
review section doesn't allow you to post your recruiting link.
The comment section does though so feel free to post it there
at least once a day, maybe even once every four or five hours
even since there are so many postings there.
Method #3) Use other social sites to recruit existing players.
If you're playing on Myspace, go to Facebook to recruit players
into your Myspace mafia, and if you're playing on Facebook,
look for the players on Myspace to recruit into your Facebook
mafia. The app also runs on Yahoo, so look for players using
the Yahoo version.
One thing you can do is create a free blog about your personal
'mafia' experiences. Go to http://blogger.com and create a blog
dedicated exclusively to your mafia. Write on it daily at first, and
be sure to include 'keywords' related to mafia wars that will help
other players find your blog. You should customize your blog
sidebar to display your recruiting link prominently.
If you don't know what to blog about, just Google some info
about mafia wars and you'll be able to get ideas.
DIRTY TRICK: Write up a blog post about "Mafia Wars Cheats"
and tell people they'll get a bonus by adding you to their mafia.
I've seen other people doing this and while they aren't winning
any real friends, they sure have big mafias…
I've seen similar methods using video sites like YouTube and
Metacafe as well. These are people who promise players a
hidden bonus if they add such-and-such person to their mafia.
It's not very honest unless you give some of your collection
items to these people, in which case it's completely honest and
I encourage you to make those kinds of promises. Otherwise,
just make Mafia Wars Cheat Secrets or something like that the
title of your video to get views but just refer people to your blog
or recruiting link.
You can also use Twitter to recruit on automatic pilot. What you
do is go to http://tweetlater.com and create a free account. You
will also already need an active Twitter account to use this.
What you do is once you've created your account, go to
"Manage My Scheduled Tweets and Twitter Account
Automation." Click the box that says "Auto Welcome" and enter
either your blogger blog or your mafia recruiting link into the
message box. It can only be 120 characters so consider a URL
shortening site like http://tinyurl.com to make the recruiting URL
small enough that you can still add a little blurb of text inviting.
Remind people they have to add you as a friend too!
You can do searches on Twitter so search for mafia wars and
start adding all the people who have anything to say about it.
TweetLater will automatically send your recruiting message to
the people that follow you back. You can do this to hundreds of
Twitter users each day, but don't go overboard because Twitter
also has anti-spam measures built-in to prevent users from
abusing the service. Create multiple Twitter accounts if you want, you only need one TweetLater account for multiple Twitter accounts
though.

Preparing Your Mafia - Mafia Wars Strategy

If you've done a good job recruiting members into your mafia,
you should have at least six very experienced players who are
very far along in the game. You want to make these super
players your 'top mafia' members. If you go to the My Mafia
section in the game, you should see places to promote six
members of your mafia into top positions that give you
bonuses.
This section will vary greatly depending on who's in your
mafia. If you're lucky you will be able to fill all six positions
with high-ranking members that will give you good bonuses.
If you didn't do so well in recruiting (impossible if you follow the
steps I've outlined) then there won't be many bonuses you can
get, but focus on the bonuses that will at least give you a little
more cash.
It's a good idea to send gifts to your mafia, especially to your
top players. It's good criminal etiquette. You'll need to pull a
bunch of jobs before you have anything to give them, however,
remember to send a gift to these members when you get
something interesting in your collection.

Using Your Godfather Points - Mafia Wars Strategy

When you first get started in mafia wars, you'll have
Godfather Reward Points. The tendency for new players is
to spend them quickly. DON'T DO IT!!!!!
Godfather points are very difficult to obtain unless you're willing
to pay real money. They are occasionally given in the game, but
usually to obtain more, you are required to buy them with cash
or buy related products or offers.
You can score some more Godfather reward points easily by
browsing through the offers to find the ones that require very
little money (like $1.39) or are completely free. There aren't
very many, but there are some. Be attentive browse the offers
to find them.
Never waste your Godfather points on:
-Money (you can always get it in fights and jobs)
-Restore Health (you can always go to the hospital)
-Stamina (this recharges quickly)
-Family Members (my recruiting methods are great)
-
DO use Godfather points on:
-Energy Refills (once you've built up your total energy points)
-Crates (sometimes it's the best way to get certain items)
-New name (it's the only way, if you get a bad rep just change)
-Skill Points (these are permanent and worth getting)

Getting Going on Jobs - Mafia Wars Strategy

As you start out as a street thug, you'll see that energy goes
fast and you need a lot of tools to run your crime organization.
Use your profile points at first to go all toward your energy. In
the initial stages of the game there is almost no fighting so put
everything you've got initially into boosting the amount of
energy you have.
Go to your inventory and pick up the basic weapons you'll need.
The required tools are displayed on the same line as the job and
when an item is red it means you either don't have it or need
more of that particular item to do the job. Go ahead and buy
everything you need to start those jobs except for maybe the
motorcycle to pull the 'Rob a Pimp' job. You can save that one
for last if you prefer because the motorcycle has upkeep and we
haven't talked about optimizing your cash flow yet.
Do the jobs that cost more energy first. If you want to build up
some cash faster, pull the job 'Collect on a Loan' because it
pays high and the energy cost is very low. Don't waste your
high energy on the small jobs like mugging, save that for when
your energy has all run out and it recharges little by little. Then
pull the small jobs.
Focus on just one job at a time as much as possible until
you've mastered it. Once you master a job you're given bonus
points which you can use to get more energy for more jobs.
It's entirely up to you how many point you allocate to energy.
You don't need to get more stamina for fights because it
recharges fast and all fights only cost 1 stamina, but energy
costs are high so you need a lot of it.
Once you master all the jobs in a section, the jobs will restart at
the next level. So you'll need to redo all the jobs again to
remaster at the higher level.
As you do jobs, you'll pick up lots of goodies and bonuses. This
is the good thing about doing a bunch of jobs before jumping
into fights. Save the fights until you've got a sizeable mafia and
some good weapons and defenses in place.
Avoid the temptation for revenge while you're running jobs.
Sometimes you'll be attacked. Let it go while you build your
mafia's business stronger. Become strong first and then you
can pick on weaker mafias all day long.

they give. This is your reference guide to always know exactly

loot drops in order to get the other items you'll need.
The loot you'll acquire:
Humvee – Break Into the Armory
AR-15 Assault Rifle – Rip Off the Armenian Mob
As you pick up items such as poker chips and cards, be sure to
hang on to them. Don't waste your energy pulling the little jobs
all the time. When you have lots of energy, pull the big energy jobs first
and then do the little ones later. The big ones give you more
experience and you'll be able to recharge your energy quicker
by advancing a level.

Creating Strong Cash Flow - Mafia Wars Strategy

There's no competition for cash flow properties. You need to
build your mafia big so you can get your hands on as many
'Mafia Mike's' bars as you can during the early phases of the
game. These are cheap and give more cash flow than buying
any of the other smaller properties. The only thing you need for
more bars is a bigger mafia, so keep the recruiting up on a
daily basis. You'll need them to guarantee the upkeep of your
vehicles and heavy weapons which are required for the bigger
jobs.
Recruit constantly to your mafia and keep buying bars to keep
up with your numbers. You should quickly be able to have a
cash flow of over $200,000. Bars are also great because they
don't require protection from robbing. It's a good idea to make
bars the base of your property dealings and only get into the
bigger hotels and casinos once you're bringing in millions in
cash flow AND have a strong enough mafia to repel heists.
It's not a good idea to sit around on a lot of cash. Always put it
to work for you. If you just sit on it, you can lose a lot of it in a
fight and your hard work will go to other mafias. Always buy
property in bulk when you can to get it at the lower price. You
pay more 1 by 1.
Doing big jobs will bring in lots of money very fast. Reinvest it
quickly into property. That's good business. Instead of looking at
the money, invest it into making you MORE money without
having to work for it in jobs or fights.
I don't recommend buying ANY rent houses or Italian
restaurants. The cash flow is too little. Focus on bars until you
can afford hotels and casinos. Remember the movie The
Godfather? Did you ever see Al Pacino and the Corleone family
worried about rent houses or restaurants? No way, because it's
not good cash flow. Hotels and casinos is where the big
money's at. They're expensive to protect, so don't lighten up just
because you got the properties.
Once you have a large mafia and lots of good defensive loot,
go ahead and go for casinos and hotels, but until then make
do with empty property and Mafia Mike's bars. There will be
plenty of time for the big hotels/casinos later.

Winning More Fights - Mafia Wars Strategy

Winning fights is a brutal way to run your entire business. I
would never recommend focusing your entire mafia's force on
fighting until after you've built a huge mafia and mastered the
higher levels. After that, you can have all the fun you want
taking out hits for bounty or just picking on the weaker mafias
for fun or cash.
Your ability to win fights depends on how big your mafia is and
how well equipped you and the other members are in
comparison to the opposing mafia, and a little luck. The luck
factor is minimal, but it exists to help keep things a little more
balanced.
If you intend to be a major fighter, you will want to use your
profile point on health and stamina. Your attack and defense
aren't very
important because it's a lot easier to boost those stats with a
lot of equipment and strong mafia members. It won't hurt you
to boost your attack and defense stats occasionally when you
master a level and only get one bonus point. It's not enough to
considerably boost your health or stamina (requires two points)
so in those cases you can use the points on those stats.
In the early stages of the game, there will be a lot of
underequipped and inexperienced newbies (n00bs) that you'll
be able to pick on. They won't know half the secrets and tips
you now know, so if you want to have some fun taking out the
'little fish' then use money on getting lots of weapons and
armor for your mafia to use.
Here's how to almost guarantee that you'll win a fight:
1 If the opposing mafia is smaller than yours
2 If the opposing mafia is a higher 'rank' than you at the
same level of play. This means that player is pulling lots of jobs
and not doing many fights. This is an easy way to identify the
mafias you can overpower – and the good part is that they'll
have money and items for you to take.
3 If the opposing mafia has an overall losing record of fights.
If your enemy has lost 2/3 or more of his/her total fights, that
player hasn't figured out yet how to win consistently and you
should be able to beat them easily.
Before attacking a player, click on the player's profile. See what
kind of weapons and armor they have. If your opponent appears
to be carrying a lot more weaponry that your mafia, you may
want to pick a different victim.
You want to have lots of weapons available for your mafia
members to use so buy the cheap effective weapons like
grenades and hacksaws that have no upkeep. Eventually
you'll need Tommy guns and other heavy weapons to pull
jobs so always be attentive to picking up the best tools as
soon as you can.
The biggest key to winning more fights is to have a strong
defense. You can usually get this with some of the mid-level
loot items. My favorites are Bodyguards, Night Vision
Goggles, and Prop Planes. I recommend getting as many
prop planes as possible. The defensive power of prop planes
is extremely high and having a lot of them will keep you from
losing fights and getting killed in fights.
Since the new elements of Gifting have been introduced to
the game, you can request to have people send you prop
planes. Most people don't like them and will happily send
them.

A word on Collections - Mafia Wars Strategy

A word on Collections: They are fun to get but don't kill
yourself trying to get all of the items for the collections
because once vaulted, the bonuses aren't that impressive.
Here are the bonuses you get from vaulting the collections:
Diamond Flush Collection (Street Thug Tier) +1 Energy
Heart Flush Collection (Associate Tier) +5 Health
Sculptures Collection (Soldier Tier) +3 Defense
Poker Chips Collection (Soldier Tier) +2 Attack
Club Flush Collection (Soldier Tier) +3 Attack
Cigars Collection (Enforcer Tier) +2 Energy

Fight Calculator Changes - Mafia Wars Strategy

As some of you may have noticed, when Mafia Wars put in the new combat screen which tallies item equipment scores and displays them on the fight screen, they changed the combat formula.

These were not just minor tweaks either. Under the previous system, testing had shown that for some reason on certain servers, attack and defense did not matter and all stat points were lumped together. Clearly this is no longer the case - attack is used for attack, and defense is used for defending.

Additionally, under the old system, attack and defense stat points were weighted much heavier then weapon and armor attack and defense points. In other words, under the old system, someone with weak equipment and a very high attack and defense stat score could beat someone with great equipment and poor stats. This is no longer the case. Under the new system, equipment scores are weighted very heavily - someone with great equipment is going to win most of their fights regardless of stat point allotment. The actual equation is unknown, but it definitely relies a lot more on equipment then it used to.

Honestly, I think that in theory this was a good change - stat points accounted for way too much and equipment accounted for way too little when it came to fighting. However, the problem is that currently players can easily boost their total equipment attack score to over 56,000 attack points by simply collecting 500 track loaders, TNT/Canonazos, and Guerrilla Squads. However, players can only boost their defense equipment score to around 49,000 points. As a result, even the best players can not win every fight on defense.

For example on my level 220 fighter account above, I have almost the best equipment, and a moderate amount of attack and defense (about 400 of each). I win literally every fight on offense even though I put a decent amount of points into energy and stamina and the account has no bonus godfather points. However, I sometimes notice that I lose fights on defense, other people are able to rob me, and so on and so forth. This is because I (and other players as well) can not boost my defense to match up against a well geared players offensive capabilities.

One strategy you could use it to put more stat points into defense then you do in offense. Because the equipment is better for offense, you do not need as many stat points in attack as it is. However, if Russia comes out and balances out the equipment, or worse, makes better equipment available for defense then there is for offense, this could backfire in a bad way. I think that stacking the odds slightly in favor of offense is a good thing - everyone wants to win fights on offense - but right now the difference is so significant that if someone has the best offensive items you are going to lose all your fights on defense even if you have a lot of +defense stat points and great defensive equipment.

For now, the only real fix is to wait until Russia and hope they add better defensive weapons.

Fight Calculator - Mafia Wars Strategy

Mafia Wars does not calculate who wins a fight in the way you would expect. And, sorry, but all that neat Equipment means little against Skill points, especially when you reach higher levels. Some of you will be quite surprised at what is important and is not important in terms of Skill points, Equipment and other factors.

IS THIS INFORMATION TOO ADVANCED?

While this looks and sounds like information for advanced players, you need to understand the formula because all decisions you make on Equipment, Godfather points and Skill points are good or bad depending on this formula. (Hint: There is a Combat Calculator online that will do all the math for you.) If you don’t like math, just skip to the Conclusions and Additional Data to see what it means to you in fighting. There is an Example to hopefully make this easier to understand. Also see the link to the mafia-wars.org thread under Credits, where you can follow the original discussion by the people who discovered this formula.

Now, on to the secrets!

BASIC FIGHT FORMULA:

Here's the basic formula considered to be used by MW after extensive in-game testing by players on mafia-wars.org (Zynga does not publish the formula):

COMBAT STRENGTH = (MAFIA * (ATK + DEF Skill Points)) + EQUIPMENT (ATK + DEF Total Value of All Items Used)

MAFIA = Number of mafia in player’s family
ATK = Attack Skill points of player, or Item Attack value
DEF = Defense Skill points of player, or Item Defense value
EQUIPMENT = All weapons, armor and vehicles used in a fight
Total Value = The total of an item’s Attack and Defense values

Put the size of your mafia in place of MAFIA. ATK+DEF is your Skill points, then added together and multiplied by MAFIA. Add to that total your EQUIPMENT, which is the Attack plus the Defense value of each item times the number of items. Then add all up those totals for all your Equipment (weapons + armor + vehicles).

EXAMPLE:

Let's fill in the numbers...

Level 20 player: She has 80 mafia, 500 skill points in both Attack and Defense, and basically no Equipment.

(MAFIA(80) * ATT(500) + DEF(500)) + EQUIPMENT(100) = 80,100

Level 100 player: He has 501 mafia, 50 skill points in both Attack and Defense, and lots of Equipment.

(MAFIA(501) * ATT(50) + DEF(50)) + EQUIPMENT(30,000) = 80,100

These two players are equal in strength. The Level 20 has only 80 mafia and no equipment. The Level 100 has full 501 mafia, and 300X the Equipment of the Level 20 player. But the low level player has only 10X the skill points of the high level player.

The number of mafia makes a big difference until both players in a fight have 501, the limit. But Equipment only makes a difference at low levels of Atk/Def skill points.

Notice that adding only 1 more friend to the Level 20’s mafia family means she now beats the Level 100 player every time. Double the Level 20 player's mafia size to 160, and she is TWICE as strong as the other player. A player could spend $750 to be at 500/500 Atk/Def points and get 80 mafia easily in one day. You wondered why lower level players are beating you in fights? It’s the skill points.

Understanding this formula leads to some surprising conclusions...

CONCLUSIONS AND ADDITIONAL DATA:

1.) Player Level has no effect on who wins a fight.

2.) ATK and DEF Skill Points are added together, so it doesn't matter how much you put in each one. The total is always used whether attacking or defending. That may change, but for now it works this way. I suggest balancing points between the two Skills (50/50).

3.) Skill points become FAR more important than Equipment in raising your combat strength as you move up the levels. This is why a player100 levels below you can be stronger than you in fights, and why the very best piece of equipment in the game is a credit card ;)

4.) 200 Skill points is worth a lot more in a fight than all the best equipment you can have. The best equipment, if you have some excellent Limited Editions, will add up to about 70,000 points in the formula. Assuming 501 mafia, add up the value of 501 of AR-15 Assault Rifles [42], 501 of Federal Agents [40], and 501 of Armored Limousines [52], and your total equipment value is 67,134. Now, with 501 mafia, plug in 100 points each in Atk and Def skills and leave Equipment at 0. You get a score of 100,200.

5.) A piece of equipment with a higher TOTAL value is better to have than one with very high Atk but low Def (when attacking, for instance). Total value (ATK+DEF) of each equipment item is used in the calculation, not just the Atk number for attacks and Def for defending. Police Cruiser [22, 28] is better than a Humvee [26, 22]. Limited Edition items will almost always be better to have than looted items because they are better balanced in values. Vehicles are an exception, where Armored Limos rule!

6.) MW does NOT always choose the best Total Value Equipment, which would help you most. And you get a different list of Equipment depending on whether you are attacking or being attacked (defending):

When you attack, MW chooses the equipment in order of ATK value. You can see this in your fight results screen. Chain Guns [16, 14] will be listed before Tommy Guns [12, 10 because they are chosen from highest to lowest Attack value.

However, when you are “attacked” by another player (defending), it's the opposite. Then, MW chooses weapons, armor and vehicles in the order of highest DEF points. In this case, your mafia of 501 fought with 501 highest-defense weapons, 501 highest-defense armor, and 501 highest-defense vehicles. You can see your defense Equipment list by having someone not in your mafia family attack you, and then send you a copy of their fight results listing all your defense Equipment.

This is all fine at low levels using only Inventory weapons, armor and vehicles. Whether you are attacking or defending, MW chooses your best equipment, in the right order, every time.

BUT… you will soon be looting better equipment. So what happens when you have RPG Launchers and Napalms? On attack, your Napalms [25, 9] are chosen before the RPG Launchers [20, 12]. The Napalms Total Value is [34], and the RPG’s is [32]. All is good.

Now switch to defense. Logically, you want to use all your Napalms first, because their Total Value is higher. But MW doesn’t work that way. Because the Defense value of the RPG’s is higher, MW will choose all the RPG Launchers [12] first, and then choose Napalms [9]. If you had 501 RPG Launchers, your Napalms would never be used at all.

This becomes more important as you buy Limited Edition Equipment and you get large numbers of loot items. There will be a day when you have 100 Armored Limos, but aren’t using them at all because lower Total Value Porsche 911’s and Harley Davidson Fat Boys are pushing them off your list. At that point, you need to gift away 100 of your Porsches and Harleys to lower level players so your Limos will be used in fights.

BUT… you cannot Gift away Limited Editions. Most LE Equipment is better balanced between Attack and Defense and has higher Total Value. But if buying it means you will be pushing higher Total Value Equipment off your list, then it’s a bad deal. You could be stuck with lower value Equipment forever.

If it isn’t obvious by now….

*NEVER SPEND GODFATHER POINTS ON CRATES OF EQUIPMENT, OR ANYTHING ELSE BUT SKILL POINTS!*. 14 Godfather points gives you 4 skill points. If you are a fighter, then most of your skill points should go into Attack and Defense, equally.

There you go... mystery solved ;) Now, get out there and win!

NOTE ON EXCEPTIONS: This is the BASIC formula, and it works. MW may apply factors that are unknown, the most famous being the "Critical Hit", in order to balance the game and to add a little unpredictability. There are the Top Mafia fight bonuses, which can randomly add strength in fight. "Protection" on properties adds an X factor to defense. These factors alter the basic calculation in small and infrequent ways, but haven't made enough difference to warrant intensive study (not that I have found). Just realize that this basic formula does give you what you need to know in distributing skill points and obtaining equipment. The other factors don't come into play at that level.

General Advice

Given that Mafia Wars is such a popular Facebook app game, I thought it only made sense to create a Mafia Wars guide. I’ve only recently started playing but I’ve successfully grown my mafia family to over 501 in just a few days. Mafia Wars is a highly addictive Facebook game but it’s also a great place to meet and add Facebook friends too. Everyone I’ve met in Mafia Wars has not only been friendly but supportive and ready to go to war in a moments notice for his/her own Mafia Wars family. Through the help of some Mafia Wars members, I’ve come up with some great Mafia Wars tips on how to play the game:

Mafia Wars iconBank the money – Protect your money by depositing it into the bank. Otherwise, you run the risk of losing it in fights or getting robbed.

Mafia Wars iconGifting to family members – You’re only as strong as your family and therefore gifting to weak members is beneficial to everyone. Make sure each one of your Mafia Wars family members has 1) a vehicle, 2) weapons, 3) armor, and 4) Mafia Wars energy.

Mafia Wars iconProtect your own – When the call for help goes out, you should join the fight to protect family members. That is, unless the opponent is too strong. In that case, bitch slap/sucker punch and make a run for it!

Mafia Wars iconPut in work and buy properties – Work your butt off doing jobs to earn money and complete the various levels. As your Mafia grows, keep buying up Mafia Mike’s as it’s the best return on your money and such property can’t be stolen.

Mafia Wars iconChoose your weapons wisely – Don’t waste your points or money obtaining weapons that have weak attack points. When you join a fight, the weapons with the highest attack points are used first so it’s important you have a lethally strong arsenal. Also, don’t waste your money buying weapons that you cannot use for gifting to others.

Mafia Wars iconStay energized – If you want more energy, don’t waste your Godfather points to increase it. Instead, use your Godfacther points to buy four upgrade points. It will cost you 14 Godfather points to do so, but it will help you in the long run. As your Mafia Wars energy capacity grows, you’ll eventually be able to pass each level much quicker and with a surplus of energy points.

Mafia Wars icon2X Level Rule – Your attack and defense points in Mafia Wars should be very strong and should scale according to your level. As a rule of thumb many Mafia Wars players like to have their attack and defense points at twice that of the level they are currently playing. Thus if your on Mafia Wars level two, your attack points shoud be at four and your defense points should be just as high.

Mafia Wars iconFighting loading problems – Sometimes your screen will freeze and refreshing doesn’t help. In that case, just go to your updates and choose a person in your Mafia Wars family to fight. It’ll say something like you can’t fight someone in your own Mafia Wars members but if you look to the right you’ll see the regular fight screen.

Mafia Wars iconReconsider Brag Gifting – You don’t need to announce that you’ve been gifting. In fact many Mafia Wars players find it quite annoying to see your gifts filling up their news feeds. You can change the permissions for Mafia Wars and other games on Facebook.

Mafia Wars iconHitlist yourself – Select a lower Mafia Wars level in your profile such as a street thug and ask someone to add you to the Mafia Wars hitlist. They just need to go into my mafia, select your profile, and add you to the hitlist. If you want to guarantee that you get experience and you don’t get snuffed-out, ask some lower level Mafia Wars players to attack you. In return you could provide a service for them such as beating up a local Mafia Wars bully.

Mafia Wars iconDon’t waste energy packs – When you’re within approximately two hundred points of the next level, refrain from using an energy pack as you’ll be instantly re-energized upon reaching that next level.

Mafia Wars iconVisit Cuba – Once you reach Mafia Wars level 35 you should take the trip to Cuba to obtain more powerful weapons and gain experience.

Mafia Wars iconUse a faster browser – Most people use Internet Explorer to play Mafia Wars but it’s super slow. You’d be better off downloading and installing a much faster browser like Mozilla.

Mafia Wars iconBecome a fan of Mike's Mafia Wars – It's a great way to get more friends. All you have to do is leave a comment containing your "Join My Mafia" link and I'll pot it on the site's home page.

Mafia Wars iconBefriend Properly – Add other Mafia Wars players on Facebook so they can join your Mafia Wars family. When you request the add, include the message “Mafia Wars” so they know what the Facebook add is for.

Mafia Wars icon Share our Mafia Wars guide with your family and friends on Facebook, MySpace, StumbleUpon, and Twitter. Doing so helps us provide more help for you. The guide is a great tool for teaching your family and friends how to play Mafia Wars so when they’re ready to join your Mafia Wars family they’ll be well educated and ready to fight for you! Use the sharring links in our right-side column.

Hitlist Riding

Hitlist riding is a really good way to gain a lot of experience for fighter characters without spending stamina or energy. To successfully ride a hitlist you need to get at least 7 experience before you die, netting you 1 free experience. The maximum net amount of exp you can get for a successful ride is 44. That means 50 max exp, minus 6 from the desired (more about that later) and inevitable death.

Preparation

The type of character that will benefit most from getting hitlisted, is a heavy defense biased fighter. Sure an all around balanced character will also benefit as long as you have sufficient defense to win most fights while on the hitlist. If you have mostly skills in energy (you are an energy account) then hitlist isn’t for you and you should check out leveling strategies for energy accounts.

A checklist for what you are going to need:

  • At least 501 sized mafia, with best defensive equipment possible. The easiest way to get very high defense as of this moment is 501 private jets, 501 camouflage body armors and 501 cane knives. These items are second rate (but still good) which means people will gift them away and their trade worth is low.
  • At least 300 defense skill. Given 501 mafia with at least the gear I mentioned, 300 defense skill will already give you rides where you net exp. Beyond this point, anyone hitlisting you is actually doing you a favor! They are using their stamina to give you free exp, how nice of them.
  • At least 240 health but do not exceed 300 health. The optimal amount of health is the amount where you can take an amount of hits enough for the 50 exp maximum and then die instantly. This is somewhere between 240 and 300. I personally have 246. Yes, you want to die as soon as you have gotten the max exp from a ride. The reason is that you can only be on one hitlist at a time, and the only way to get out is either dying or waiting 2 hours. If you die right away, you can get hitlisted for another 50 exp right away and so on. So you can get a lot more exp than 50 per 2 hours, you just have to die.
  • Street Thug title. This title attracts the most noobs and low level people on the hitlist, thus netting you the most exp.
  • Someone to hitlist you. This can be a friend of yours, someone from your mafia, someone you pissed off or another account of yours. You want at least a $800,000 bounty on your head. Low level people who still need NY cash might not even care if they are losing, as long as they get a chance to get nice chunk of money from a kill. So if the hitlist is full of people hitlisted for $8,000 you will attract the most low level players for sure.

How to ride the hitlist efficiently

First make sure that the one who hitlists you is on a hitlist server that doesn’t have lag and isn’t overpopulated. If you get placed on an overpopulated hitlist, it is very likely you will be stuck there for 2 hours with minimal exp. The hitlister determines on which hitlist you will be placed on, so they should check the situation from Fight -> Hitlist tab.

Now, when you are placed on hitlist, the first instinct for most people is probably to use the hospital. DON’T. You should have enough health to sustain hits for maximum experience without using the hospital. The reason is that if you use the hospital, you will linger on the hitlist too long getting hits for 0 exp and in worst case risk getting stuck on the hitlist. And if you die soon after using hospital, you can’t heal and get relisted because the hospital has a 60 second cooldown which will hurt your exp gains in the end. So only use hospital after you are dead and are ready to be hitlisted again.Do not take it personally when someone stronger whacks you on the hitlist in seconds and you lose 6 exp. Even with 1900 defense, this happens to me occasionally. The most important thing is the overall net exp. If it seems that the overall net exp gains on multiple hitlist rides are negative, build up your defense before trying again. Don’t ever hitlist anyone that is stronger than you, you will just hand them over free exp and make your Mafia Wars profile link appear all over their newsfeed for their convenience if they want to harass you again.

That should pretty much cover it. If you’ve ever wondered how some characters have such a high fights won stat, it is because they are constantly riding the hitlist and making other people work their fights won stat.

Beginner Guide

A lot of the basic strategy in mafia wars depends on how you use Skill Points toward Attack, Defense, Energy, Health, and Stamina. These are the basic strategies depending on how you wish to play the game. These are basic guidelines, and most people will find that they will use a combination of these strategies.

Leveler
This is the most popular strategy by far and it will allow you to level up faster. Simply put all skill points into energy and then do lots of jobs. Doing jobs with a high experience to energy ratio will speed up the process and allow you to level faster. The best jobs for high experience to energy ratios are as follows:

Street Thug Tier: Auto Theft (1.33 ratio)
Associate Tier: Bank Heist (1.77 ratio)
Soldier Tier: Museum Break-In (1.5 ratio)
Enforcer Tier: Run Illegal Poker Game, Manufacture Tokens, Get Cheating Deck (1.83 ratio) Note: The Run Illegal Poker Game Job requires 20 Tokens and 20 Cards each time it is done, Therefore this three job cycle is the best ratio on the enforcer tier. The burn down a tenement and federal reserve raids both give a 1.5 ratio without needing Preparatory Jobs.
Hitman Tier: Protect your City against a Rival Family, Assassinate a Political Figure (1.77 Ratio) Note: Both of these jobs have the same experience to energy ratios and do not have to be done together.
Capo Tier: Whack a Rival Crew Leader (1.68 ratio)
Consigliere Tier: Steal an Arms Shipment (1.82 ratio)
Underboss Tier: Order a Hit on a Public Official (1.96 ratio) Note: This job requires an Untraceable Cell Phone each time it is done. The best job without consumable loot is Muscle in on a Triad Operation with a 1.87 ratio.
Boss Tier: Travel to the Old Country (1.978 ratio) Note: this is the last job currently available. Settle a Beef… Permanently has a 1.972 ratio and is the first boss job available.

All of these ratios were computed by taking the experience gained from the job and dividing it by the energy required for the job. Also these ratios were calculated with an 11% more experience bonus and a 10% less energy bonus from top mafia. I would suggest getting those bonuses as high as possible by promoting strong players into the Mastermind and Wheelman Top Mafia positions. So your ratios may be a bit different from mine, but these jobs should still be the best ratios regardless of your bonuses. I would also work on getting The Consigliere Tier level three mastered because you will get a 30 second reduction on the energy regeneration timer and the Boss Tier level three mastered because you will get double energy regeneration. Be warned though, the Boss Tier level three mastery will take quite awhile because of the extremely low job mastery percentages per job (1-2% per job).

Fighter
This strategy will help you win more fights. The basic strategy is to add skill points to attack and defense equally. You will be stronger with 50 points on attack and 50 points on defense than with 75 points on attack and 25 points on defense or vice versa. Since there are other factors in winning fights you will also need to pay attention to things other than skill points. Mafia size is very important, you will need to have 501+ mafia members. As you build up your mafia you should also keep up with items. You can use one weapon, one armor, and one vehicle per mafia member. The best items for fighting are the chain gun as a weapon (The bonus weapon is better than the chain gun and is unlocked at level 99), Body Armor for armor, and towncar for vehicles. Those are the best items that can be bought, but there are many loot items that are better. Just remember that the game will automatically pick the best weapons, armor, and vehicles that you have available with a preference for looted items.

As you build up a strong character you should also build up some stamina so you can put that strength to good use. There is no way that you can know if you will win or lose when attacking someone else, but there are some ways to make sure you’ll win most of the fights you start. Attacking characters with smaller mafias than yours will usually result in a win. If no smaller mafias are available on your fight list then you can click on each character on your fight list and look at their number of fights won and number of fights lost. If this ratio is low you will probably win the fight. As far as health goes, that’s up to you. The only advantage of high health is being able to max out on the hitlist, which will be discussed in another post.

So those are the two main strategies for Skill Point usage. Strong players use both of these strategies to become well rounded players. Using one or the other or both is entirely up to how you wish to play the game, but I would suggest spreading out the skill points between energy, attack, and defense so you can level up pretty well and get a good fight record.
